Impermanence、非永久性とでも言おうか。

永久ではないこと。
その儚さ。

言ってみたら音楽とは時間の経過とともに消え行く存在（現象）だ。
空気の振動が、ある音階に響き、ある順列で、ある組み合わせによって、
なぜか心に響くという、不思議。

閑話休題。

Last Songという曲でこのアルバムは幕をあける。1曲目がLast Song。
この曲に託された儚さ。モチーフへの強い決意。

本アルバムには彼女自身の手で、こう記されている。

How does one create a work about impermanence? One can only brush upon aspects of it; conjure up the sensation that everything is in flux,everything constantly changes, we can’t hold onto anything. What we have in common as human beings is that we will all die and we don’t know when or how. We will lose our loved ones, our own health and finally our own bodies. Keeping this in mind leads to a deep appreciation of the moments we have, to not taking anything for granted.

In a way, making a piece ”about” impermanence is an impossible task. I could only imply it, offer glimpses, create music that would be evocative but would also leave space for each listener to have his or her responses.

非永久性についての作品をどのように作り上げらよいだろうか。
様々な面について磨き上げることは可能だろう。
全ては流れ、変わり続ける。それは誰にも留めることはできない。

我々は皆、何時、どのような形で死ぬかもまた、知る由も無い。
私たちは愛するものを失い、健康を損ね、自身の肉体を失う。

このことを心に留めることは、今、この瞬間、瞬間がかけがえの無いものとして
深い感謝の念を抱かせる。

ある意味で、非永久性についての作品を作ることは、不可能な仕事だ。
暗に仄めかしたり、その一端をそれとなく漂わせたり、喚起させることはでき得る。
しかしそれは聞き手の解釈に余地を残すことになるだろう。

そうした実感を持ってこの作品は、作られた。
Meredith Monk (メレディス・モンク)は過去の作品において、永遠性をモチーフとして各作品に忍びこませてきた、という記述を引いた。そこへ、本作である。

かつて誰かが、こう言ったことを記憶している。

デザインは答えであり、アートは問いである。

この作品は、アートなのだろう。

美しさと同時に、問いを私たちに残していったのだから。
